A Breeders Choice & Ethics

Pet Lovers and Breeders take note !

HOW TO KNOW A GOOD BREEDER:

An ethical Good Breeder will or will not do the following in their breeding program:

1. A Good Breeder is not considered a Backyard Breeder or Puppy Mill for just a mere profit.

2. A Good Breeder will choose only the Best Dam & Sires and make sure their dogs have been health tested and the parents and grand parents & so on are tested for all known dieases and health issues and have excellent genetics behind the dogs they choose.

SKIP A DOGS HEAT OR BREED HER ????

HERE ARE MY VETS OPINIONS AMONG OTHERS
Skip a Cycle? Or Breed Each Successive Cycle?

At Rutland Manor we breed our girls back to back ( each successive cycle) and desex/retire them young. There are very good reasons for this.

Firstly - Modern veterinary research indicates that it is healthier for the breeding females themselves to be bred on concurrent cycles and greatly reduces the incidence of uterine cancers.

Secondly - By breeding successive cycles and then retiring the breeding females several years younger than if they skipped a cycle each year, these still-young females have the chance to find a loving forever home where they can spend the rest of their lives as the adored single dog family companion they deserve TO BE.

ALSO NOT JUST ANY LAB OR STANDARD POODLE WILL DO FOR AN ETHICAL BREEDER.

3. Excellent Breeders will only breed the Dam & Sire of Good temperment and not a dog that shows fear or has personality issues.

4. Good Breeders will whelp their litters inside and not out in a Barn or backyard, ( unless the breeding facility is built like a small house and has central a/c and heat and all accomadation a home inside would. )They will be hands on all the puppies at all times for good socialization and attention and puppy love.

5. Good breeders will not use multiple types of dogs for differnet looks in one litter ( And this is done by some people, so be careful)

6. Good Breeders have a vet on call at all times and spare no expense in raising their dogs.

7. Good Breeders feed excellent Dog Food and do not use cheap grocery store type foods. Health and Skin & Coat is essential

8. Good Breeders are hard to find !
We consider ourselves Excellent breeders as we spare no expense to great in selecting our Breeding Dams & Sires.

Pet Store Puppies are from Backyard Breeders , Puppy Mills etc and People that will use any ole Lab and any ole Poodle are not qualified to ask for Money when selling puppies.

An Ethical Breeder will provide you with Dam & Sire on Site,( Unless a Breeder has arranged a Special Breeding with a Champion Sired Dog and the Dam is artifically inseminated and the Sire lives out of State, only qualified Breeders will do this )Good Breeders will give you Health Certificates, Guarantees, Puppy Package, Copies of Pedigrees on parents, and continuous support when you raise your New Puppy.

If you want Quality Puppies Guarantees choose an Excellent Breeder

Read What a Breeder Does below in Order to get you a Wonderful Puppy :

A Breeder ( with a capital B) is one who thirsts for knowledge and
never really knows it all. One who wrestles with decisions of
conscience, convenience, and commitment.
*A Breeder is one who sacrifices personal interests, finances,
time, friendships, fancy furniture, and deep pile carpeting!
She gives up dreams of a long, luxurious cruise in favor of turning
that all important show into this years "vacation".
*A Breeder goes without sleep (but never without coffee!) in hours
spent planning a breeding. Or watching anxiously over the birth
process, and afterwards, over every little sneeze, wiggle, or cry.
*A Breeder skips dinner parties because that litter is due or the
babies have to be fed at 8.
She disregards birth fluids and puts mouth to mouth to save a
gasping newborn, literally blowing life into a tiny, helpless
creature that may be the culmination of a lifetime of dreams.
*A Breeders lap is a marvelous place where generations of proud
and noble champions once snoozed.
*A Breeders hands are strong and firm and often soiled, but ever
so gentle and sensitive to thrusts of a puppy's wet nose.
*A Breeders back and knees are usually arthritic from stooping,
bending, and sitting in the birthing box, but are strong enough to
enable the Breeder to show the next choice pup to Championship.
*A Breeders shoulders are stooped and often heaped with the
abuse of competitors, but they are wide enough to support the
weight of a thousand defeats and frustrations.
*A Breeders arms are always able to wield a mop, support an
armful of puppies, or lend a helping hand to a newcomer.
*A Breeders ears are wonderous things, sometimes red ( from
being talked about) or strangely shaped (from being pressed
against a phone receiver) often deaf to criticism, yet always fine
tuned to the whimper of a sick puppy.
*A Breeders eyes are often blurred from pedigree research and
sometimes blind to her own dogs faults, and are always
searching for the perfect specimen.
*A Breeders brain is foggy on faces, but can recall a pedigree
faster than an IBM computer. It's so full of knowledge and can
sometimes blow a fuse: It catalogues thousands of good bonings,
fine ears and perfect heads...and buries in the soul the failures
and the ones that didn't turn out.
*A Breeders heart is often broken, but it beats strongly with hope
everlasting....and it's always in the right place!
Oh yes, there are breeders, and then, there are BREEDERS!

IF YOU DO NOT CARE WHERE YOUR PUPPY COMES FROM AND CARE ABOUT GOOD HEALTH AND GUARANTEES THEN WE ARE NOT THE BREEDER FOR YOU. THANKS

I and other Quality Breeders do NOT
RECOMMEND A PUPPY for Children that are are single Children in a household under 5 years old that are the only children in the home. I have had to take back many a puppy that parents thought was cute for a young child, puppies do not respect young children ad are way too young to discipline a pup.
